Immunotherapy Integrated Research Center (IIRC), Fred Hutch
Dr. Melinda Biernacki works to improve cancer immunotherapy and bone marrow transplantation for blood cancers. A clinician-researcher who treats patients with leukemias and lymphomas, Dr. Biernacki focuses on harnessing the power of T cells, a type of immune cell with a unique strategy to recognize and kill cancer cells. She is working to identify novel cancer-associated T-cell targets around which to develop new T-cell based immunotherapies. Dr. Biernacki also aims to improve blood stem cell transplantation by improving donor T cells’ ability to target cancer cells while alleviating their attacks on healthy recipient cells.
