Recognizing her outstanding achievement and the contributions made to the lives of people who have cancer, Dr. Nancy Davidson, president and executive director of Seattle Cancer Care Alliance, received a 2017 Women of Oncology Award.
Dr. Davidson, who won the award for academia, was among three distinguished winners. The Women in Oncology Awards are presented annually to three outstanding women in academia, industry, and advocacy, according to its organizers PRIMO Education and Cancer Experts Now.
Dr. Davidson is a world-renowned breast cancer researcher, who has dedicated her career to the study of cancer biology and treatment. In addition to her role at SCCA and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and University of Washington Cancer Consortium, where she is executive director, she is president of the American Association for Cancer Research, and the past-president of the American Society of Clinical Oncology.
Other winners include Kathy Giusti, founder and executive chairman of the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation and the Multiple Myeloma Research Consortium, and Jill DeSimone, head of US Oncology at Merck.
At SCCA, Dr. Davidson is responsible for directing and managing the organization’s affairs, including planning, organizing and coordinating cancer care, clinical research and education. Dr. Davidson also treats breast cancer patients as part of the breast cancer team at SCCA.
Davidson holds a personal connection that drives her to create a world without cancer. “My hope and goal in life is that no one should have to suffer from such a catastrophic illness,” Davidson said.
