Dr. Robin Jones, a physician-researcher focused on sarcomas, has joined the Clinical Research Division’s Solid Tumor program. He directs the Bob and Eileen Gilman Family Sarcoma Research Program and sees patients at the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance.
Jones plans to study novel molecular targets and develop new therapies through clinical trials for patients with sarcomas, rare tumors that arise from connective tissues in bones or muscles.
“I wanted to pursue my research at the Hutchinson Center as there are fantastic facilities for conducting research and it is a world renowned institution,” said Jones, who is also an assistant professor of oncology at the University of Washington. “In addition, the sarcoma service has an excellent multidisciplinary team with a tremendous research record, particularly in the use of PET scans as a marker of response to systemic therapy.
“I am very excited to be working with Drs. Cassian Yee and Seth Pollack in the Clinical Research Division and also with the other members of the sarcoma team, including Drs. Conrad, Eary, Rodler, Loggers, Hoch and Kane.”
Jones, who did his medical training at the University of London, has spent most of his oncology career at London’s Royal Marsden Hospital, the first hospital in the world dedicated to cancer treatment and research and Europe’s largest comprehensive cancer center.
The Gilman family, which donated $1.5 million to the Center to recruit a leader for a sarcoma research program, underwrote Jones’ hiring.
