Gynecologic Oncology

“Being a part of my patients’ lives and health is an amazing privilege.”

— Barbara

Why do you enjoy working with women?

My very first nursing position was in a hospital where I cared for women with cancer. The experience made me want to learn more about how cancer affects women and how they approach self-care. I want to empower women to focus on their health and take time for themselves. I will support you throughout treatment and help you realize the vital role you play in your own health care. I believe that through self-care, we can improve our lives and the lives of those we interact with in our families and communities.

What role do you play in patient care?

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner (ARNP) specializing in gynecologic oncology. My goal is to be a constant source of support for you and your family during all phases of your cancer care, from initial diagnosis through treatment and into survivorship. During visits, I encourage you to discuss your needs, concerns, goals and expectations, so we can make decisions tailored to your life. I think you will appreciate me as a compassionate and optimistic resource for you.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Gynecologic cancers

I specialize in gynecologic oncology, focusing on women's health and promoting women's self-care practices. In addition, I see patients and am the co-director at the Women's Wellness Clinic, a gynecologic and breast cancer survivorship clinic at Fred Hutch. My research focuses on how women define health and wellness and on women’s self-care practices. Most recently, I’ve been involved in a study looking at the cognitive effects of chemotherapy.

In my lifetime, I trust we will develop better screening tools for ovarian cancer and discover ways to improve the body's immune system against cancer cells.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
