Hematology

Hematology-Oncology

“It’s important to me for patients to feel involved in their care and really understand their options so we can work together to make decisions that best fit their values.”

— Dr. Lam

What do you value about your work?

Hematologic issues can be a challenge because the labels and diagnoses don’t always match how patients feel. There are a lot of gray areas, and many situations have more than one right answer. This also means there are opportunities to customize treatments for each person. It’s really rewarding to help patients discover what’s right for them.

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

I recognize that I have a lot to learn from my patients, and I try to keep an open mind about what care can look like for each person’s circumstances. It's important to me for patients to feel involved in their care and really understand their options so we can work together to make decisions that best fit their values.

Blood disorders, hematology, hematology-oncology

I am a physician and clinical researcher who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic.

My research focuses on the intersection of hematology, oncology and clinical informatics. I am particularly interested in how technology can best serve patients and providers. I am a big believer that technology can improve health care if integrated in a thoughtful way.

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
