Psychiatry

“I feel very privileged when patients are vulnerable and open with me about whatever is going on so we can work together to address their concerns.”

— Christopher

What brought you to psychiatry?

I was a medic in the U.S. Army, and while I was in the military, I saw that mental health is as important as physical health and realized that I liked providing this kind of support to people. I see patients who are dealing with psychiatric conditions that run the gamut from anxiety and depression to schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, as well as those who are managing distress, grief and other mental health concerns during cancer treatment.

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

I want patients to feel seen and heard. I hope people also feel empathy from me and that I am with them on the same team. I have a variety of life experiences — I grew up in Bangkok and moved to the U.S. when I was 18. Before becoming a physician assistant, I also worked a variety of jobs, including in food service and at a convenience store. I want to build rapport with patients and their families so we can understand each other and everyone feels safe.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
