Medical Oncology

“I want every patient to feel heard and respected as an individual. It is so important to be able to express goals and concerns for care. This helps us work as a team to make the best choices for their health together.”

— Claire

What brought you to oncology care?

Everyone is affected in some way by cancer. We all know someone who has had to cope with it. I wanted to understand the medicine and the process of treating cancer. I have always wanted to work in health care, and when I was younger, I shadowed a lot of different professions. Through this, I figured out that being a physician assistant was the right option for me. I started out in the emergency department as a new grad and then moved to outpatient internal medicine before making my way to oncology.

What drew you to Fred Hutch?

Not only does Fred Hutch have the reputation of being at the leading edge of research with clinical trials available to patients, but when I have sent patients to receive care here in the past, they have had nothing but positive things to say about their experience. This is what drew me to work here — the feedback from patients about their providers and the care they received. They felt heard, listened to and respected.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Acute care oncology

I am a certified physician assistant who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and UW Medical Center – Montlake.

I see patients in the ACE clinic, or Acute Clinical Evaluation clinic. We are an acute care team that functions as an urgent care for patients at Fred Hutch. We see patients for acute and urgent concerns, working with their primary teams to provide better same day access to help keep patients out of the emergency room.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
