Hematology

“I value good communication. From our very first meeting, my goal is to focus on who a patient is as a person, not only on their disease.”

— Dr. Dima

How do you like to work with patients?

I prefer to function as a team to develop a personalized treatment plan that works for people — for their life, not just for their cancer. Maintaining a good quality of life is very important, and it is my goal for patients to go back to their daily routine despite being diagnosed with cancer. I love educating patients so they can understand their disease and the treatments used. The more involved patients are in their care, the better the outcomes.

Do you have any favorite memories of a patient you’d like to share?

One of my patients was wheelchair-bound and in very bad shape when I first saw her. Six months later, she was able to dance at her son’s wedding.

I have a lot of great memories, but in general, it is very rewarding to see patients getting remarkably better with therapy and going back to their routine or doing things they are excited to do.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Light chain amyloidosis, monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS), multiple myeloma, POEMS syndrome, smoldering myeloma

I am a physician-researcher who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic.

I specialize in multiple myeloma, a blood cancer of the bone marrow plasma cells that can cause bone damage and kidney problems. I also treat other conditions caused by abnormal growth of plasma cells, such as light chain amyloidosis, which can affect the heart and kidneys, and POEMS syndrome.

My research focuses on outcomes of patients with multiple myeloma treated with chimeric antigen receptor T-cell therapies and novel bispecific antibodies. I am a member of the U.S. Multiple Myeloma Immunotherapy Consortium and have more than 50 peer-reviewed publications.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
