Medical Oncology

“What I love most of all is helping people; medicine provides a path that allows me to integrate an interest in leading-edge science with the amazing opportunity to establish lifelong relationships with patients and families.”

— Dr. Currin

Why do you practice oncology?

Growing up, I never planned on being a physician — I actually dreamed of becoming a violinist. But then I discovered that I wanted a career where I could give back to others. What I love most of all is helping people; medicine provides a path that allows me to integrate an interest in leading-edge science with the amazing opportunity to establish lifelong relationships with patients and families. Now, as an oncologist, I see my job as helping people navigate the challenging process of cancer diagnosis and treatment.

What do you want patients to know about working with you?

It’s a privilege to work with patients and families who are facing cancer. I strongly believe in a patient-centered approach to care that is tailored to meet your specific needs and treatment goals. I collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of specialists to provide care that is based on the latest science and takes into account your quality of life. One of the gifts of my job is not only helping you make treatment decisions but also guiding you through recovery and into survivorship.

Provider Background

Are of Clinical Practice
Breast cancer, gynecologic malignancies

I am a medical oncologist who cares for patients with cancers affecting the digestive system, prostate, bladder, breast, lungs, head and neck. My expertise also includes gynecologic cancers. Prior to joining Fred Hutch, I served patients as a hospitalist, providing care for those who were hospitalized with serious illnesses. Today, my practice is based at Fred Hutch at EvergreenHealth.

Research is also an important part of my career. While completing a fellowship at the University of Washington School of Medicine, I studied molecular imaging and breast cancer. Currently, I am active in clinical research for breast cancer and other solid tumor malignancies.

Community Oncology

Our mission is to provide patients with the highest quality, personalized care closer to home. As part of Fred Hutch, our community oncologists offer patients multidisciplinary tumor board opinions, clinical trials and expertise in treating a variety of cancers.
