What drew you to the field of oncology?

I grew up in a small town in India, where one of my uncles practiced medicine. The idea of being able to help others — to help people feel better, the way he did — appealed to me and set me on the path toward becoming a physician. Years later, when I was a resident, the patients dealing with cancer were the ones who touched my heart, and they continue to inspire me. Oncology is a fascinating field that is rapidly changing; new discoveries are happening all the time. I love the fact that I must constantly be learning, so that I can share that knowledge with the patients I care for. My goal is to help patients navigate a difficult cancer journey with a focus on preserving their dignity and quality of life.

What do patients appreciate about working with you?

Patients have shared that they value my level of honesty about the situation they’re facing and my ability to explain what’s happening medically as well as what their treatment options are. I believe the best possible outcomes occur when you have the information you need and we can work together as a team to make decisions. From personal experience, I also understand that a diagnosis of cancer affects everyone in the family. I focus not only on treating your disease but also understanding the social impact of cancer on you and your loved ones.

I have a wealth of experience treating benign/malignant hematology and solid tumors but have a specific focus on the treatment of breast and colon cancer.
