Hematology-Oncology

“I want patients to feel comfortable, supported and safe to have any emotion.”

— Marissa

What do you value about your work?

I like connecting with people and being a support and light for them during what can be one of the most difficult and trying times of their lives. I want to be present, help them navigate the ebbs and flows and get to know them and who they are outside of their cancer.

What brought you to oncology?

When I was a senior in college, a close friend’s mother was diagnosed with mesothelioma. I was not only deeply impacted by her late diagnosis and how quickly it progressed, but also became even more intrigued by treating cancer and oncology in general.

Eventually, I started working as a patient care associate at a hospital specializing in cancer, and that is where I fell in love with nursing and its holistic approach to medicine.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Acute leukemias

I am an advanced registered nurse practitioner who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic.

In my role, I take care of patients on an intimate level, so cultivating emotional connections is important to me.

I appreciate that we can assemble multidisciplinary and cross-collaborative teams to provide support for patients and offer clinical trials that are not available everywhere.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
