Medical Oncology

“I see providing health care as a bit like a sports team where the patient is the owner, manager and coach, and every team member has only their goals and best interests in mind.”

— Navi

What brought you to oncology and what do you value about your work?

Since high school, I have been involved in some capacity in health care, but I really got started in the United States Army as a medic. I then worked in emergency medical services and as a registered nurse in an intensive care unit and the emergency department.

I love taking care of patients. Because I’ve mostly provided care in emergency and critical situations, I see people when they’re in their greatest need or in crisis, and I appreciate being a supportive person and advocate. I want to bring a sense of calm to patients and their family members and guide everyone through the process.

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to be in your care?

I hope patients see me as not only a provider, but also as a friend. I see my role as that of a support figure who is guiding them using the most up-to-date, evidence-based medicine to get them to their optimal state of health. Their desires, wants and goals are mine, too. I’m not just a person who is telling them what to do.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
