Hematology-Oncology

“I want to be someone that patients can trust, and know that I will not take this trust for granted.”

— Dr. Kopmar

What brought you to oncology?

When I was in my first year of medical school, my father was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia, a particularly aggressive form of blood cancer. This occurred during a very formative time in my medical training, and I became interested in the disease biology of blood cancers, their clinical presentations, and their impact on patients and families: ultimately, this led me to a career focused on blood cancer treatment. I have been motivated to see the how much treatment options have advanced for blood cancers in the last decade, largely due to ongoing research efforts at institutions like the Fred Hutch.

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

A cancer diagnosis can be one of the biggest challenges anyone can go through. I want to provide informed, expert care, and also relate on a personal, human level and meet people where they are.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Adult blood and marrow transplantation, cellular immunotherapy, leukemia, lymphoma

I am a physician who sees patients at the South Lake Union Clinic and Fred Hutch at UW Medical Center – Montlake.

I have experience with clinical trials and outcomes research in acute leukemia. The expanded options for treatment and improved outcomes in the last decade that we have witness in acute leukemia and other blood cancers have been made possible through research, and I want to contribute to this ongoing innovation. In addition to clinical trials, I am also interested in understanding more about disease risk-stratification and factors influencing prognosis, which may improve our ability to better tailor treatment approaches for each individual.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
