Medical Oncology

What do you want your patients to know about you?

I’m originally from Barcelona, Spain, but have happily made the United States home for a long time now.  After my fellowship at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, I conducted clinical trials at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, where I treated patients with some of the most advanced immunotherapies available today.  I bring this research experience – and a related conviction that better cancer treatments are possible – to my patients at Fred Hutch.

Have you or a loved one been affected by cancer?
How did that impact your outlook on cancer or your approach to care?

Since my father passed away from cancer when I was very young, I understand firsthand how difficult cancer can be for patients – and their families.  My own experience with cancer informs how I approach caring for patients and working with their families. I truly believe that the relationship between an oncologist and her patients is very personal as patients entrust oncologists with one of the greatest challenges of their lives. I continually strive to earn this trust by working hard to achieve the best possible outcomes for my patients.

By working with other bladder cancer specialists, I collaborate to develop the best treatment plan for each patient. I believe in a straightforward approach that empowers patients with the tools they need to make informed decisions about their care.

Provider Background

Area of Clinical Practice
Genitourinary cancers

I am a medical oncologist who is devoted to improving the treatment and survival of patients with genitourinary tumors. I see patients at the South Lake Union Clinic.

My research involves studying novel targeted therapeutics and immunotherapy-based treatments for urologic cancers. My research interest is in bladder cancer and bringing new cancer cell therapies to treat solid malignancies. I developed the first clinical trial of engineered T-cells targeting human endogenous retrovirus E for kidney cancer. As a native Spanish speaker, I enjoy working with patients who prefer to communicate in the Spanish language and advocates for these patients' inclusion in clinical trials.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
