Medical Oncology

“Active listening is key. I’m not looking to disrupt any successes. I’m only looking to build on them.”

— Dr. Hurvitz

What is the focus of your work?

My career has focused on the laboratory and clinical evaluation of novel targeted therapeutics for the management of breast cancer. Over almost two decades, I have played a leadership role in the design and implementation of phase I, II, and III national and international breast cancer clinical trials. The results of many of these studies have changed the way we treat breast cancer.

Since transitioning to the Fred Hutch and UW, my goal is to expand the clinical research programs not only for breast cancer but for all of oncology/hematology. To be successful, we will focus on making the process of starting clinical trials more efficient and on expanding the reach of our clinical research into our community sites so that more patients will have access to cutting edge medicines.

What brought you to Fred Hutch?

I was enticed by the opportunity to learn from and build upon the successes of the legendary hematology and blood and marrow transplant programs and to translate their successes to solid tumor oncology. The prospect of developing programs at a center with such a great foundation, loaded with so much talent, was too good to pass up.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.
