“I appreciate becoming a familiar face to patients and their families. I enjoy the time I get to spend with them to answer questions and be with them as they go through treatment.”

— Sara

What brought you to oncology and being a physician assistant?

I’ve always been interested in medicine, and the role of a physician assistant appealed to me because of the amount of quality time we get with patients. Before coming to Fred Hutch, I worked as a physician assistant in neurosurgery, and now I’m continuing to provide care for patients coping with brain tumors. I was drawn to working with people who are going through this particularly overwhelming diagnosis.

What do you hope it’s like for a patient to work with you?

I hope patients feel like they can ask me any question — nothing is silly, too small or too weird. I also hope they know that I am available to listen and spend time with them and make things approachable and easier to understand.

Every person working here is dedicated to cancer care and making sure our patients are supported.

Clinical Trials

We make promising new treatments available to you through studies called clinical trials led by Fred Hutch physicians. Many of these trials at Fred Hutch have led to FDA-approved treatments and have improved standards of care globally. Together, you and your physician can decide if a study is right for you.

Your Care Team

At Fred Hutch, you receive care from a team of providers with extensive experience in your disease. Your team includes physicians, a patient care coordinator, a registered nurse, an advanced practice provider and others, based on your needs. You also have access to experts like registered dietitians, social workers, acupuncturists, psychiatrists and more who specialize in supporting people with cancer or blood disorders.

Insurance

Fred Hutch accepts most national private health insurance plans as well as Medicare. We also accept Medicaid for people from Washington, Alaska, Montana and Idaho. We are working to ensure that everyone, no matter what their financial situation, has access to the care they need.
