Our training opportunities reflect the many biomedical disciplines and research interests pursued at Fred Hutch. We introduce teachers to the thrills and challenges of scientific research.
Science Education Partnership
Science Education Partnership (SEP) is a 3-week summer program for Washington state high school and middle school science teachers. Through this program teachers explore lab techniques and teaching skills in subjects ranging from genetics to molecular biology. After this program, participants gain access to the SEP Kit Loan Program and SEP's network of science teachers.
Partners in Science 2.0 @ Fred Hutch
Partners in Science 2.0 @ Fred Hutch is a new two-year program for secondary science educators based on the Murdock Partners in Science program. The PS2@FH program matches Partner teachers with Mentor scientists for two paid summers of biomedical research in a host lab.

Hutch Fellowship for Excellence in STEM Teaching
A two-year program for secondary science educators seeking an in-depth, biomedical research experience at Fred Hutch. The fellowship provides support for two paid summers of research experience in a host lab and curriculum design activities, with additional school year follow-up.
Open Source Lessons and Units
Free, open-source lessons and units
Fred Hutch's Science Education Partnership program offers free, open-source lessons and units geared towards high school biotech and biology teachers and focus on giving students opportunities to explore biotechnology and the social dimensions of research science.
Choosing Between our Professional Development Programs
Fred Hutch Science Education offers three professional development experiences for teachers.
- The Science Education Partnership (SEP) - The Science Education Partnership professional development program is a 3-week summer program focused on developing teachers’ molecular biology skills and pedagogical practices. SEP is our longest running teacher program started in 1991 and provides access to equipment and reagents through our Kit Loan Program.
- The Hutch Fellowship for Excellence in STEM Teaching (HTF) - This is a full summer research experience that involves a cancer research experience paired with the design of innovative cancer-focused curriculum materials.
- Partners in Science 2.0 @ Fred Hutch (PS2) - This is another summer research experience that will appeal to teachers who want to immerse themselves in a biomedical research-focused experience, discover the process of science, and develop their identities as scientists
