Supporting Population-Based Prevention Research Since 2004
The Prevention Center shared resource (PCSR) was founded with the goal of facilitating transdisciplinary, collaborative research focused on the prevention and mitigation of disease. Since 2004, over one-hundred studies have used the Prevention Center services in the conduct of exercise interventions, nutrition interventions, or prevention-based clinical interventions. The facility offers well-trained, specialized staff and an inviting space for study participants to participate in population-based research.
The Prevention Center consists of a state of the art Exercise Research Center (ERC), a Human Nutrition Laboratory (HNL) and a Research Clinic.
Research Clinic
The research clinic is available for investigators to conduct interviews, collect medical histories, perform physical exams or obtain biospecimens. A trained and experienced Physician Assistant is available to support the study team in performing medical assessments and specimen collection procedures. Clinic staff are further available to assist with data collection procedures, blood draws, interviewing and DXA imaging for bone density or body composition. Our on-site pharmacy is available for storage and dispensing of FDA-approved study pharmaceuticals and investigational dietary supplements.
Each research study is unique and may require a unique combination of procedures. The Prevention Center staff is available to answer questions and support the development of new protocols and their service requirements. Prevention Center procedures are available for review by clients inquiring about laboratory and facility services.

Exercise Research Center
A growing body of evidence shows that exercise plays a key role in preventing cancer. Through the exercise research center, researchers can conduct studies to better understand the relationship between exercise and carcinogenesis, and to help people adopt healthier lifestyles to reduce risk.
Study participants can access a state-of-the-art exercise research facility with treadmills, recumbent and upright bikes, elliptical trainers, rowing ergometers and strength training equipment. Locker and shower facilities are also on-site.
Experienced staff work with researchers to track participants using some of the latest technology, such as the MGC Diagnostics Pulmonary Exercise System with Combined 12-Lead ECG for breath-by-breath testing. In addition to the exercise facility, education activities can be held in a large multi-purpose room.
